Valve today provides an important update on the release status for the Steam Deck, confirming that the upcoming handheld gaming computer should remain on track for release starting the "end of February". That means the first batch of Steam Decks should at last begin shipping later next month to customers who already preordered as of last year.
The announcement was no doubt intended to dispel fears that the Steam Deck would face further delays, given ongoing global manufacturing and supply chain issues thanks in no small part to the coronavirus pandemic. New customers interested in preordering a Steam Deck at this point will still need to get in line to reserve their own unit; Valve expects future Steam Deck batches to be ready past Q2 2022.
In the meantime, Valve remains hard at work to ensure that the Steam Deck will support as many titles from the Steam catalog as possible at launch. Quality of support ranges from "Verified" (works out of the box), "Playable" (some settings customization required) to downright "Unsupported".
